In the vast spectrum of human experiences, natural disasters, major social upheavals, wars and revolutions, many individuals are left deeply impacted by these events. They require support and care to traverse the difficult path of distress and, ultimately, a return to a semblance  of normal life.

We, the people of Iran, have once again risen, following the killing of Mahsa/Jina Amini in police custody in Septemebr2022. This revolutionary uprising against tyranny and ignorance has, as we know too well, claimed many victims and casualties. It is our social, national and humanitarian responsibility to support these brave individuals who have paid such a heavy price on behalf of all of us. It must be a priority for grassroot organisations to offer them the support they need.

Just as physicians take an oath to serve people, regardless of gender, race, politics, or religion, so too must anyone who envisions a future of equality and justice pledge to their conscience that they will leave no effort spared in helping those who suffered for freedom.

For trusting that this last

“Humans are members of a whole,

In creation of one essence and soul,

If one member is afflicted with pain,

The others remain uneasy in strain.”

With this in mind, we call on Iranians across the world to unite in support of these silent bearers of freedom. Those who have sacrificed the most, often in silence and obscurity. Many are now in dire situations, standing on the front lines of this struggle.

If a revolution cannot care for those who have sacrificed in the fight against tyranny and ignorance, it risks losing the spirit of humanity and the hope for freedom. We invite you to stand with us and join the campaign to support the victims of Woman-Life-Freedom movement.

Together, we extend our hands of solidarity, trusting that this last bastion of humanity assures us all that We Can.

Story

Get to Know Us

Ghahrenam is a non-profit campaign made up of dedicated volunteer psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, medical professionals, lawyers, legal advisors, and human rights activists. Our primary mission is to  help those who have been sexually tortured, assaulted, or raped while in custody of the Islamic regime during the Woman-Life-Freedom uprising. We believe that even one case of such violence is unacceptable, and we are here to help individuals heal from these horrific experiences.

Our work is focused on three main goals:

  1. Healing individuals: We provide direct support to those who have suffered sexual violence, offering psychotherapy and legal assistance to help them heal and rebuild their lives.

  2.  Supporting families: We also work closely with the families of those affected, equipping them with the tools to support their loved ones’ recovery and helping them heal from the trauma as well. This includes guidance on how to improve mental health and well-being within the family.

  3. Raising social awareness: Our third goal is to educate the wider society about the impact of sexual violence and trauma. We aim to foster a compassionate understanding of these issues, helping people learn how to respond appropriately, and support those affected by these crimes.

At Ghahrenam, we believe that the Islamic government has used sexual violence and torture as tools of repression, and we focus our efforts on helping those who have been directly harmed. Together, we can help individuals, families and the society heal from the damage caused and build a future rooted in empathy and justice.
